Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
