More than 36,000 civilians have escaped Sudan's Kordofan region east of Darfur since Saturday, as reported by the UN's migration agency.

The key central region separating the country's Darfur regions and the capital region has over recent weeks become the recent fighting area in the extended civil war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary group.

Significant Displacement Numbers

An estimated 36,825 people escaped five areas in North Kordofan state between 26 October and 31 October, per data from the International Organization for Migration.

The individuals, mainly traveling by foot, traveled to Tawila, a town to the west of El Fasher that is currently housing over 652,000 refugees.

Heightened Military Presence

Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday described a substantial rise in both RSF and army presence across urban and rural areas throughout the state.

Both forces are vying for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan regional capital and a critical supply and command hub that connects Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have assembled at the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently shared video declaration.

Local Inhabitants Describe Security Concerns

A area citizen of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the quantity of RSF vehicles had increased substantially since the group's seizure of El Fasher.

"We discontinued traveling to our farms, fearing fighting," the local stated.

Another resident, who sought confidentiality for safety concerns, also indicated that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.

World Alarms and Calls

A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The representative warned of patterns comparable to patterns in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.

The spiritual head on Sunday appealed for an quick cessation of hostilities and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and hindrances to humanitarian aid "are causing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's diplomatic representative to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of carrying out war crimes in El Fasher and declared that the Sudanese government would not negotiate with the militia organization.

The ambassador further urged the world nations to designate the group as a terrorist organisation.
