Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
