Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Against the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden Fall Classic following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a four games to three win in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for our team, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now hit twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot besides Springer with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto won the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
