Ex- Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have stated that a former physician stands accused of committing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
