Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
