New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with New York in March.
