Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
