The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
