The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
