This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
âIf we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,â the mayor added. âMay this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.â
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling âsix-sevenâ â inspired by a rap song lyric â often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made âsix-sevenâ its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThis swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,â said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
âIt captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.â
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
